Bonaire, Dutch Caribbean

Bonaire is a unique island in the Caribbean that is part of the Dutch Caribbean  formerly known as the Netherlands Antilles. Bonaire is world famous for Scuba Diving and as is also perfect for Wind Surfing.  The boomerang shape provides a large calm area on the West coast making for a great anchorage.  Bonaire has been a pioneer in marine conservation with one of the first Marine Parks in the Caribbean creating a first in the world mooring system and outlawing anchoring in the late 70's. There are sturdy permanent moorings are available along the coast in front of the main town of Kralendijk and at many dive sites.  There are also three marinas.  Spear fishing was banned in 1971 and our tournament became catch and release over 15 years ago.

There is a small shelf of shallows surrounding the island and the spectacular reefs drop to great depths just off of the coast.  This set up provides for deep sea fishing conditions just off shore.  Bill fish have been caught from our town pier in the past!
